fits and starts

that’s the 3 word history of my writing.

i’m back.

from argentina.

future=nebulous

meaning that anything could happen, and most likely will.

many questions swirling around

1: will i get a job anytime soon?

2: will the sluggards at teacher’s standards and practices commission approve my sub license renewal sometime before 2088?

3: should i stick just with the sub license or go for the renewal of my “real” teaching license?  (which requires that i take nine hours of continuing education and I quote “germane to my certification”…nine hours of class=3000 US dollars.)

4:  are there actually any teaching jobs in the metro area for next year?

5:  will rei hire me back to sling shoes for them?

6:  will  parents ask me to tutor their offspring to the tune of 40 bucks an hour?

7:  should i aim to return to my walk…do panamá to alaska?

8:  should i go somewhere else?  russia?  india?  africa?  missouri?

9:  should i settle down?  mail-order a wife?  beget children?  build a 401k?

10:  will i ever be a good percussionist?  guitar player?  friend?

11:  will i ever read anything by james joyce?  and actually enjoy it?

these are the questions that jitter and jostle, impelled by some interrogative brownian motion.

there are more questions, too.

but you know all of them already.

or at least your variations of them.

Watsup Ian, you’ve tought me a few spanish classes during my education in Lake Oswego.. I’m finishing my freshman year at U of Oregon right now..

    A response to #7…
I’ve spent a total of 3 months time in Panama. The people of Panama have changed my life in ways i’m still figuring out. When I do go there I go to a little piece of paradise called La Mata Arriba. Its a small community of about 40 families. Most men work in cane fields and many have their own plots of land with rice, yuka, cows, cane etc. not for commercial use but to support their families directly. Anyways.. If you are going to walk through Panama (consider going late july to find yourself in patronales season if you do) the people of La Mata Arriba would be happy to let you stay with them for a few nights.

I just want to say that I aspire to have the understanding of the world and its cultures as much as you do. As joe dirt would say, keep on keepin on

    -Alan
ps. I still haven’t had a better spanish teacher
