soylent green sensationalism.

another shooting, another school…another news cycle digging up victims, victim’s families, friends of victims, victim bios, victim retrospectives, friends of aquaintences of people who once dated victims, the cameras, like jagged speculums, will go into victim’s homes, victims primary schools, classrooms, bathrooms, and backyards, and that’s just the victims,

they’ll also recreate, dilineate, masticate and regurgitate the last hours of the madman, that “quiet”, “loner” guy who uncorked a killing field at the Tech…

(what else are people going to be that decide that killing dozens of total strangers in broad daylight, face to bloodied face, popping off shots like a fucking metronome other than ”quiet” and “loners”…people who talk, socialize, interact, even rage, yell, threaten, and posture DON’T SHOOT PEOPLE! (well…um…yes they do…but not as often) 

they’re gonna piece together his past, find a “reason” for his actions, hint at troubled youth, distance from friends and family, “early warning signs unheeded”, there’ll be dramatic recreations, postulations, and exhumations of his soul and at the end of the day we’ll still really know nothing more about it all, we’ll be no closer to being able to understand the hows and whys of it,

(and I have a sneaking suspicion that the answer includes words like “fucked up”, “as”, “a”, and “species”) 

but that won’t stop the media from trying and trying to figure it all out…and they’ll keep pumping out that syrupy, soft-focus soylent green sensationalism for our reality-addled masses until the next news cyle…and it’ll start all over again.

In fact I’m thinking of clocking my life out now not in terms of hours and minutes, nor days and weeks…

and I’ll leave the sun and the moon to you…

I’m gonna do it all by news cycles.  Today I write you from the Tech Shooting, 2nd turn (a cooler way of saying day) or TS2.

I was playing hooky from high school, buying a butterfinger on CE1 (challenger explosion, day 1)

I was getting a degree in spanish from MCD20 or so until MLS120 (mad cow disease outbreak to day 120 of the monica lewinsky scandal)…

It’s efficient, and it helps remind us of the important events we’ve lived through, it allows us to pay homeage again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again to mass media and all that it brings us….

where would we be without it.
